In the most recent trailer for “A Quiet Place Day One,” the upcoming prequel to the thrilling film series, the once lively streets of New York are shown in an eerie state of calmness. Set to hit theaters on June 28, the movie follows the characters Sam, played by Lupita Nyong’o, and Eric, played by Joseph Quinn, as they navigate through a dangerous landscape where the routes into and out of the city have been destroyed.

A World of Silence and Fear

The main cast, also including Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou, witnesses the collapse of society as horrifying creatures mercilessly slaughter anything that makes a sound. To survive, they learn to use the deserted city to their advantage. In one intense scene, Eric throws a piece of concrete through the window of an abandoned taxi, creating a distraction that allows him and Nyong’o to escape while the blind monsters are distracted.

A Focus on Characters

The new trailer focuses on this main cast, building on the backstory introduced in the first preview, which paid homage to the first two films in the “A Quiet Place” series, starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. Krasinski, a producer on “A Quiet Place Day One,” collaborated with screenwriter and director Michael Sarnoski to develop the film’s story.

“This is more of a character dramas than anything else,” Quinn explained to Entertainment Weekly. “The script is set in a familiar world, but it’s really about these two characters who are lost and trying to accept their fates. While Sam encounters some other interesting characters in the film, the majority of it is Eric and Sam accepting this bleak, quieter, new reality.”

A Change from the Original Story

This marks a departure from the original franchise, which focused on Blunt and Krasinski’s characters trying to keep their family together in the midst of chaos. “That’s not the case in this film,” Nyong’o said. “We have these different individuals who come into each other’s lives at a crucial time for the world. How do they survive together? The chemistry between the characters that meet along the way is really intriguing—and sometimes surprisings.”

“A Quiet Place Day One” promises to deliver the same tension and gripping narrative as its predecessors, offering a new perspective on the eerie silence enveloping the city.
